The Ministry of Health and Hoima District Local Government working with development partners have today launched the training of Community Health Extension Workers-CHEWS.
The training was officially launched by Sonko Bongore who represented the Hoima RDC Rogers Mbabazi at a function held at Kigorobya Town Council Premises.
Sonko said the training of Community Health Extension Workers is going to bridge the service delivery gap and improve on disease prevention in communities.
Hajji Kasim Dumba a community health specialist from the Ministry of Health said that the training will help equip the community health extension workers with skills in disease surveillance and identification of key health challenges affecting local communities.
The Hoima District Chairman who was represented by Secretary for social services Hon Hillary Tumusiime has commended government and the development partners for considering Hoima on this initiative.He says Hoima District remains under served in terms of Health facilities which are serving a higher population.
The Hoima CAO Ssempala Emmanuel was represented by Senior Assistant Secretary Stephen Mwesigwa Rwamukaga who has committed total support for the program.
The training of Community Health Extension Workers-CHEWS is scheduled to take a span of four months including classroom sessions and field attachment.Two CHEWS were selected from each of the 55 parishes in HOima District.
