NITA-U Engagement Meeting With Hoima District Stakeholders on the Digital Accerelation Project
NITA-U has held an engagement meeting on with key stakeholders from the refugee hosting districts in Bunyoro (Hoima, Kikuube and Kiryandongo) at Hoima District Youth Center Hall. The meeting was aimed at introducing the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project that is being implemented by NITA-U in the refugee communities across the country.
The Uganda Digital Acceleration project – GovNet (UDAP-GovNet) is a government-led initiative aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure, expanding internet access, and promoting e-governance across Uganda. The project is funded by the word bank, the project addresses disparities and drives economic growth through technology adoption. The project is expected to run up-to May 2026.
KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT.
Expand internet connectivity to government institutions and refugee communities.
Enhance digital inclusion for vulnerable groups, including refugees in 12 refugee-host districts and 13 refugee settlements.
Strengthen e-government services for better service delivery.
Promote digital skills development and workforce readiness.
Support e-waste management for environmental sustainability
Forster linkages to energy and financial sector programs to drive socio-economic benefits.
This project will benefit the communities by improving connectivity, provide digital skills training, and creating linkages to opportunities in education, healthcare, and financial services, fostering greater digital inclusion.
Hoima District Local government will be engaged through awareness programs, coordination meetings and structured monitoring framework to ensure successful implementation.
The project plans to establish 2 telecenters and Masts in Hoima District. Telecenters will be constructed and equipped with different ICT equipment and these centers will act as a one stop center for digital skilling and access to digital services.
