Non-Health workers and other stakeholders in Hoima district to step up community-based surveillance in order to fight against Mpox.
While presenting the status report on Mpox disease during an engagement supported by Baylor Foundation Uganda, Fred Kugonza the Hoima district surveilence Officer said that nine sub counties have registered Mpox disease cases.
These include Kabale (5),Buseruka (6),Buhanika (2),Kitoba (3) Buraru (2),Kyabigambire (1) and Kigorobya (1).The district has also recorded two cases of death with Bombo and Buraru sub counties.
The Hoima CAO Emmanuel Ssempala in his remarks has urged health workers to use the data on Mpox to sensitize local people more especially the high-risk category t fight against the disease.
He has called for involvement of politicians, pinon leaders and religious leaders in mobilizing people.

Hillary Tumusiime the secretary for health and social services says there is need for consorted efforts towards fighting against the further spread to the district.
The district with support from different implementing partners like Baylor and Global Health Securities has implemented several interventions which include training of VHTs in reporting Mpox cases, community engagement and small pox vaccination
