Hoima District Chairman Commends EACOP for Funding the Construction of a 7.5 Kilometer Community Road in Hoima District.

The Hoima LCV Chairman Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri has commended East African Crude Oil Pipeline-EACOP for supporting the construction works on a 7.5 Kilometer road in Kabale sub county.

The 7.5 Kilometer road stretches from Katoke trading center through Kayera village to Nyamasoga in Kabale sub county.

Uthuman says he lobbied for the road from the management of EACOP following the outcry from residents in Kabaale sub county whose livelihood depends on agriculture.

He says EACOP has been able to fulfill its pledge of working on the road. He adds that Hoima district leadership and people will continue to work with and support EACOP operations.

The EACOP deputy Executive Director JB Habomugyisha while speaking during the launch of the works on the road at a function held in Katoke trading center today, said that EACOP is committed to ensuring that the project gives back to the local communities.

He said that EACOP is working on two projects as part of their corporate social responsibility; the Katoke-Kayera-Nyamasoga road and upgrading of the Mbaraara Health Center two to a health center three status. He said that EACOP is employing 90 percent of Ugandans and using Ugandan suppliers to strengthen local content.

Fulcrum Consult Limited has been hired by EACOP to work on the road project.

The Hoima District Council Speaker Swaibu Nyangabyaki who represented the district leadership at the function commended EACOP for coming up with such a project which will benefit thousands of people who have been grapping with poor road network.

He said that he will work with other leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the Katoke-Kayera-Nyamasoga road status is upgraded from being an access road to a feeder road.

Samuel Mugisa who represented the Petroleum Authority of Uganda has urged local communities to desist from organizations which are fueling the negative campaign against the extraction of oil resources in the country. He said that there are some people and organizations which are branding EACOP as a bad project adding that people should not pay attention to such negativity.

The Hoima CAO who was represented by Atugonza Brian the Senior Assistant Secretary has urged the Kabale community and leadership to cooperate with the contractor and ensure that the road is completed in real time. He has also urged the population to engage in agriculture production inn order to benefit from the road project.

The launch of the project has been attended by several stakeholders including Kabale sub county leadership, technical staff, officials from EACOP, PAU, UNOC and community members.
