Government Reaffirms its Commitment to ending Gender Based Violence.

HOIMA:The government reaffirmed its total commitment to ending Gender Based Violence and violation of human rights through digital platforms.

Mr Benard Mujuni the commissioner in charge of rights and equity in the Ministry of Labour,Gender and Social Development while officiating as a chief guest at the 16 days of activism commemoration event held on Wednesday 10th December 2025 organized by Hoima district and development partners  at Kyohairwe Primary School in Buhanika sub county said that the government is strengthening the mechanism to promote digital literacy in order to eliminate gender based violence against women and young girls.

This according to be the commissioner is being done to create a safe working environment amidst the growing use of digital technology adding that digital abuse should be recognized as a serious human rights violation.

The Hoima District LCV Chairman who has been represented by Hillary Tumusiime the Secretary for social services has urged parents to educate and protect their children against the growing threats from gender-based violence. He says Hoima district will work to extend key services to the population in Buhanika sub county more especially safe water, education facilities and promotion of government programs tailored to improve on household income. He commended the Gender ministry for always considering Hoima district on different seed funding proejcts like UWEP, YLP and PWDs grant which have had a great positive impact.

The Hoima Chief Administrative Officer who was represented by Evelyne K Businge the Principal Assistant Secretary has called for consorted efforts from all stakeholders against the gender-based violence which has wrecked down families and culture.

She has commended the development partners for teaming up with Hoima district local government to come up with a successful event.

Annet Kyalimpa Mugabe the Director of Programs at Reproductive Health Uganda who represented the development partners said that Gender Based Violence has culminated into stress, shame and poor productivity among its victims who waste time in seeking for redress instead of concentrating on productive work. She has implored families to be at the forefront of fighting against GBV in communities.

Different development partners which participated in organizing with Hoima district local government include;RHU,CEHURD,URDT,Baylor,Redeem,HOPLA Network for People Living with HIV,Fibal  Care Innitiative,Babra Kemigisa Foundation,Red Cross Socity and Hoima Blood Bank Among others.

This year 16 days of activism commemoration was under the theme dubbed Ending Digital Violence against all women and girls to achieve gender equality.

The day’s celebration kicked off with a justice run, general cleaning of Butema Trading Center, Blood donation and a medical camp with hundreds of residents participating.

The day has also been used to commemorate the International Day of the Disabled, World AIDs Day and the International Human Rights Day.
