UWA to implement a UGX 300 Million water harvesting project in Hoima District.

Uganda Wildlife Authority-UWA in partnership with Hoima district local government is set to implement a 300 Million Shillings water harvesting project in Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve and Kaiso Tonya Community Conservation area.

Raymond Kato the Senior Warden for Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve while meeting Hoima district leaders and technical staff on Friday, said that the project which is funded by world Bank through the IFPAC (Investing in Forest and Protected Areas for Climate Smart Development Project) will target communities around the conservation areas where local people will be given water harvesting tanks.

He says the tanks will be given to people with water harvesting capacities. They will also target public institutions like churches, schools, health centers and other religious places.

This according to Kato is aimed at improving access to safe water and also improving on the quality of lives of people who co-exist with the conservation areas.

He also called for consorted efforts from all stakeholders to promote tourism and revenue enhancement from the conservation areas.

The LCV Vice Chairperson Hellen Mulumba UWA for coming up with a water harvesting project which will help hundreds of local community members around the conservation area and the reserve access safe and clean water. She appealed to UWA to expand the project to other areas more especially in Waaki and Lunga where access to water is still a big challenge.

The Hoima RDC who was represented by the Assistant RDC Shafih Ntuuyo commended UWA for always engaging the district in its corporate responsibility activities aimed at improving the quality f lives. He said that tourism should be taken as a key priority because the government has earmarked it as a major factor in social-economic transformation. He said the issue of poaching will be dealt with decisively by the government security agencies.

The engagement was attended by the Principal Assistant Secretary in the office of the CAO Businge K Evelyne,District Production Officer Dr Kajura Charles,District Natural Resources Officer Joselyne Nyangoma,District Water Officer Dean Mukiidi,District Tourism Officer and the Revenue Officer among others.
