Hoima district local government with support from the central government under the UgFT program has set up a multimillion piped water project that will serve hundreds of households in the water-stressed areas.
The Kibanda piped water project in Kiganja Sub County will supply water households in over eight villages.
According to Dean Mukidi the District Water Officer, the project which is currently under phase three of construction will have an estimated cost of about 926 million shillings. A reservoir well has been drilled in Kibito village and work at the 75000 Littre tank is ongoing in Kibanda village, Kiganja Sub County.
‘‘This project has been ongoing for two financial years and its being implemented in three phases and this is the third phase where we are constructing a reservoir for the system and a pumping station. We expect to complete it in the next financial year by December. There are eight villages that are going to be served by this project’’ Mukidi said during an inspection exercise on the project on Tuesday 17th June 2025.
Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri Junior the LCV Chairman while inspecting the ongoing works noted that the residents in Kigorobya County have been depending on salty and unsafe water from Lake Albert.
He says that the entire Kiganja sub county depends on two boreholes which are not enough to meet the water demands for both domestic consumption and agriculture production.
‘‘We want to thank the government which is funding this poroject.We first worked on access road to this place. We are extending safe water to our people to ensure that they have good health.
Our people have been getting challenges in accessing safe water for consumption and domestic use and for agriculture production. This will help them improve on their lives and livelihood projects’’ Uthuman said.
Richard Katusabe a resident of Kibito village is optimistic that once the project is completed in time, it will help them access safe water.
‘‘We thank Hoima district local government for considering in this project we have been suffering with accessing safe water. I think that we are soon getting safe water once this project is completed’’
The phase three of the project was contracted by LUBRA contractors Limited.
